Article: WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN TO BE BRAVE?

WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN TO BE BRAVE?

WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN TO BE BRAVE?

BRAVE is a decision.
It is a deep FAITH thing.

You can go through life and feel like it has taken its beat on you.
You can walk through seasons that drained you, confused you, even made you doubt yourself.
But somehow — deep inside — you still know:

My story isn’t finished.
I cannot see it… but I know it.

That’s what bravery feels like.
It’s the whisper that refuses to die.

This little phone cover in my hand?
It became my reminder that after every desert season, there will always be a bloom season

A small Hebrews-style faith reminder, held every day.

When “being brave” triggers everything inside you

Let’s be honest:
We were brave before… and it didn’t always work out.

You prayed for someone in public — it didn’t turn out well.
You ended a divorce — the church prosecuted you.
Your child made choices that didn’t line up with God’s word — you corrected them, and it still didn’t work out.

So being brave again starts to feel risky.
Almost foolish.
Almost painful.

Not doing anything feels safer.

But still… that quiet voice keeps coming back:

“I want YOU to be brave.”

New York & The Military Mindset

When I first came to New York, the Lord told me:

“You need a military mindset.”

It felt harsh.
It felt opposite to my personality.
I didn’t see myself that way — not at all.

But I sat with it and realized something:

Generals don’t talk too much.
They guard their minds.
They stay focused on timing, truth, and strategy.
Only a few voices sit at the table with them — people who carry insight, not noise.

That revelation took me on a whole new journey:

I don’t have to engage in everything.
Only a few people know the inside story.
And what others think is not my assignment.
I must stop watching what everyone else is doing.

Brave became my word of transformation.
I had to reorganize my whole WHY.
God brought me to New York to gather my thoughts… and write my new life story.

Why I designed this cover — and why it’s PINK

As a creator, I asked myself:

What do I carry with me every single day?
My phone.

So I designed something I could see daily — something that reminded me of who I am becoming.

I chose pink for a reason:

Pink = compassion.
Pink = forgiveness.
Pink = softness recovering its strength.

Pink reminds me to forgive — others and myself — and to step into a COMPASSION BRAVENESS.

Yes, you heard me right:
Brave is compassion.

In a world where everyone is so self-absorbed, looking only for themselves… compassion has become a rare commodity.

But here’s the truth:

Compassion was my doorway into the Kingdom.
I didn’t plan on becoming a lover of Jesus — compassion made me curious.

I went for a normal facial on a normal Tuesday morning… to a woman I didn’t know.
Halfway through she gently asked, “May I pray for you?”

I was 47 years old,
and no one had ever asked me that before.
Obviously the tears flowed.
There was compassion in the room — real, tangible compassion —
and that’s where my journey began.

She invited me to her Bible study.
I never liked Bible studies.
I definitely didn’t like those people.
But I was vulnerable…
and ready…
and the Lord knew.
A compassionate person — a compassionate spirit
invited me in.
And for the first time, I felt safe.

That’s who we are called to be for others.
That rare commodity that seems to have faded even more after Covid.
The person whose heart posture makes someone exhale,
feel seen, and whisper, “Maybe I can trust again.”

But compassion does not mean becoming a doormat.
Jesus Himself showed us that — over and over.
He had compassion without losing discernment.
He welcomed the hungry, but He never chased the unwilling.

So yes… compassion is rare.
But that is exactly why it’s powerful.
And that is why it is needed — now more than ever.

A compassionate spirit makes you curious.
It disarms you.
It feels so uncommon that you almost don’t trust it at first.

“Why are they blessing me?”
“What do they want?”

And then you realise: nothing.
No agenda. No performance.
Just compassion — pure and rare.
That’s what pulled me closer.

But somewhere along the line… even good Christians changed.
The world hardened hearts.
Compassion became almost extinct.

And that’s exactly why it has become one of the most powerful tools in my hand —
and in yours.

The last ten years & the voice that wouldn’t leave me

I won’t sugarcoat it:
I almost lost myself these last ten years.
My compassion disappeared because so few people showed any toward me.

But again — that still small voice started speaking:

“I want you to be different.”

With the military mindset He gave me, God taught me this:

Strong compassion + strong discernment = brave.

Compassion and braveness feel like opposites, but they are not.
They actually belong together.

My phone became my reminder:
Keep going.
Do what’s least expected.
That’s brave.

The whole Bible is full of it.

HOW WE CAN ACTUALLY CHANGE THE WORLD

These aren’t big, dramatic steps.
They’re simple.
They’re daily.
They’re brave.

1. Listen to that still voice.

Speak less.
Listen more.

2. Before you judge, pause.

Ask for compassion.
It changes everything.

3. Put yourself in their shoes.

You will see people differently.

4. Pray for those you struggle with.

Nothing unblocks the heart like prayer.

5. Remember: one small gesture can shift eternity.

My whole life changed because someone showed me compassion.
Your kindness might be the doorway into the Kingdom for someone else.

That’s why it’s called BRAVE — because compassion is unexpected.
